Driving scholarship for youth with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

A scholarship worth $500 for individuals who live with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, are between 15 and 21 years of age, and want to learn how to drive, is being offered by the Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago, and the Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Foundation.

The applicants need to live in the United States or Canada, and have a will to drive. The scholarship will pay for adapting driving evaluations, lessons or adapted equipment for his or her car.

An essay of 250 words must be included. It must state why the student qualifies to receive the scholarship, and specific goals for driving.

Applications will be ranked by the following criteria:
~Need for transportation to and from job or school. (50%).
~Financial need (25%).
~Essay (25%).

Applications are due by May 12, 2010 and winners will be notified by June 2, 2010.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of representatives of the OI Foundation and Shriner Hospitals for Children-Chicago.

For review purposes all applications are “blinded”. This means that persons identifying information is not sent to reviewers. Please do not use last names when answering the essay questions.
